Quettajoule Unit | All you need to know

A quettajoule (QJ) is a unit of energy equal to 10^30 joules (one nonillion joules). It represents one of the newest additions to the International System of Units, officially adopted in 2022 by the BIPM. The quettajoule is intended for expressing extremely large energy quantities theoretically relevant to astrophysics and cosmological energy scales, such as stellar energy output over extended periods. The prefix "quetta-" was chosen to extend the SI system beyond the previous maximum prefix, yotta- (10^24). Currently, quettajoules have no widespread practical application, but the unit exists within the SI framework to provide standardized notation for cosmic-scale energy measurements if needed in future scientific research. The unit appears in comprehensive metric conversion tools and scientific databases for educational reference.
